Many women complain the men in their lives don't measure up when it comes to housework.
"The average guy's ignorance and lack of skill makes every housecleaning experience an ordeal – we don't know where to start, what tools to use or how to do it right," says Tom McNulty, author of Clean Like a Man.
Luckily, it's easy to learn, says McNulty, who describes the vacuum as "a man's power tool."
To help your cleaning-challenged mate, McNulty suggests splitting up the chores to allow for specialization, plus lots of positive reinforcement. A little competition doesn't hurt either, such as racing the clock to see how fast you can clean the room.
"Rushing actually helps a man focus better and avoid distractions," he says.
Carry your cleaning tools with you, so you don't have to stop mid-task to find a missing item.
Use both hands for wiping down surfaces.
Tackle tasks with the biggest impact first – making the bed makes the whole space seem tidier.
